Library queue: Salon pick edition

December 12, 2007

Okay, now that assigned homework is done, it’s time to get cracking on my approximately 25 days of free reading time before the next round of syllabi arrives on my doorstep. I’ve got a sizeable round up already, so I’m not sure how many of Salon’s year’s best picks are going to be making the cut… the fiction list seems a little on the safe side… but I am excited to see that their nonfiction list is topped by Tom Bissell’s The Father of All Things. I’ve never read anything by Bissell before, but I heard an excerpt of this book read on Selected Shorts last year about this time, and I thought it was stunning. For anyone who’s thinking about writing about fathers or veterans of war, it sounds like a must-read.

BTW, Selected Shorts has a podcast now.
